Canapé

The canapé consists of a slice of bread (usually pan loaf) cut rather thinly, buttered or spread with mayonnaise and variously coated (with ham, cheese, shellfish, caviar, smoked salmon, etc.).

It is served as an appetizer, as an accompaniment to an aperitif, and also in a cold buffet. The canapé can also be jellied.
