Pod

Generic term that indicates the fruit of the Legumes. The pod consists of a shell with 2 elongated valves, in which the edible seeds are contained (beans, peas, broad beans, etc.). The color is different depending on the type of legume; green in the case of peas and broad beans, white, mottled or brown in the beans. Normally it is not edible, except for green beans or snow peas; however, the pods of peas can be used, boiled, to make puree, soups or savory puddings.
