Freshwater fish, the barbel lives in lakes and rivers in almost all of Italy. The back is brown-green that fades into white on the belly. On the sides of the mouth, it has 4 long barbels. It can reach up to 16 inches in length. Its flesh is quite rich in fish bones, but the taste is quite delicate. This fish is excellent when grilled, fried or boiled.
