Blueberry is the fruit of a shrub that grows spontaneously in mountain areas. It is a small berry, dark purplish, almost black, with juicy pulp. Blueberries are generally found during summer, but there are also other earlier varieties.
Excellent as a fresh fruit, it is usually served with other berries, such as raspberries, currants and blackberries and used to make jams as well as sweets. It is paired with game dishes, especially in the cuisine of the Nordic countries.
