Emmentaler

Emmentaler is a famous Swiss cheese, originally from the Emme valley in the Bernese Oberland, today also produced in the surrounding areas. It is made with cow's milk and brine, then it is left to age and branded on the whole wheel to distinguish it from other similar cheeses. The paste of this cheese has an ivory color and a sweet taste with a slight hint of hazelnut. To ensure that the cheese has reached perfect ripeness, the cheese's holes should have a drop of water, its presence indicates in fact the Emmentaler's freshness.
