Fritter is a type of sweet or savory preparation that consists of whisked eggs, flour, sugar or salt, milk or another liquid (such as white wine and beer), in which food cut into slices or pieces is immersed grossly. The mixture, taken in spoonfuls, is then fried in boiling vegetable oil.

Sweet fritters are generally sprinkled with powdered sugar before serving.
