Ragôut is a French term, Italianized into ragù. In the original version it is a preparation of meat, fish or vegetables cooked in a stewpot, while the ragù, as it is commonly understood in Italy, consists of minced meat and tomato sauce (flavoured with aromatic vegetables, wine or other ingredients), used to season pasta or to stuff it.
