Tuna fish

Tuna is a large sea fish belonging to the Scombridae family that lives in very deep waters; only in the period of reproduction does it approach the coasts and it is precisely at this moment that it is caught. It can reach 900 pounds in weight and 10 feet in length. It has dark blue skin on the back, which fades into silver on the belly; the flesh is deep pink.

Tuna can be sold in slices (the smallest specimens of the Bonito species can also be found in whole fish shops). It can be stewed, grilled or roasted; tuna is widely used for preservation both naturally and in oil.
